Learning Disabilities

Some of the main difficulties that affect students at school are Learning Disabilities, which can be described as specific kinds of learning problems. Learning disabilities can cause students to have trouble learning and using certain skills such as Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking, and Reasoning, according to researchers Learning Disabilities are cause by differences in how a person’s brain works and how it process information, it does not mean that students are dumb or lazy, the only difference is that their brains process information differently, because these students usually have average or above average intelligence.

When working as a teacher, there is a big responsibility toward students because make them learn has to be the principal goal, but in some cases it  is so difficult because students present a Learning Disability, for example when learning the alphabet, connecting letters to their sounds, reading aloud, following directions, retelling a story, following social rules, and some others, which means that the teacher’s job is more than only teach, they have to be aware of all their students, the way they learn, the way they process information or how difficult it turns to them because it is the only way to know and make students be successful in their learning process.

Learning Disabilities is a problem that has existed since ever, and it turns more difficult when teachers do not pay attention to the student’s limitations, and it is the case of many schools in our Salvadorian society because some teachers go to work at school, but they ignore this problems and how to deal with it, others because they really need the money to survey and that is it, they do not care if students understand the class, or if they have a family problem or when learning, so these students do not learn at the same race than others, they failed subjects, and their learning process goes slowly.

To sum up, I would like to add what parents and teachers should do with a child having a Learning Disability. First of all, they have to identify what kind of problem they have. Second, they have to investigate more about the problem to know what are the alternatives or solutions. Third, the child may need to be evaluated to see if he or she has a Learning Disability because some parents and teachers try get confused with this because they are paying attention to normal problems students present according to their ages which is something different, so the more conscious parents and teachers are with this problems, the more students will acquired in their studies.
