I interviewed Karen who studies her third year in our university. She explained to me that the skill that took her more time to develop was the speaking skill because she is kind of shy, and she does not feel confident when speaking in front of other people. She said that she faced this problem  since some of her classmates used to laugh when she mispronounce a word  or when she made a mistake, so she started getting afraid to talk.

For Karen this has been a big problem to improve first, because of the way she is and second, because of her classmates, but she explained that what she does the most is reading articles, magazines and books in order to get familiar with new vocabulary, she also likes to pronounce new words in front of the mirror, listening to music and watch movies because she thinks it helps her to improve her weak skill.

Karen also said that she likes the way the teacher gives the class because she realizes that the activities are adequate for improving the foreign language. The teacher develops activities such us role plays activities, presentations, debates, pair work presentations, oral interviews etc, which is something she likes because her learning is dynamic and meaningful.

Even though Karen said that English is what she loves, she still continues having problem with this skill because she gets frustrated when talking, but she thinks that one day everything will become different, so what I recommend to her is that she should participate more in classes because the more she participates, the more fluently she will become when talking. The second thing I said was that we are human beings, so we tend to make mistakes always, but everybody learns through a mistake. So Karen, never give up do not forget that it is your career, what you love, so it does not matter what other people think or say go beyond your learning. YOU CAN!

  1. I AM VERY FAMILIAR WITH THIS GIRL BECAUSE I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM, I WAS VERY AFRAID TO SPEAK INFRONT TO MY CLASSMATES. NOW I GET NERVOUS AND IT IS NORMAL, BUT I AM MORE SELF CONFIDENT I FOCUS MY ATENTION IN WHAT I KNOW AND TRY TO HAVE A POSITIVE MIND.
YOU COULD SAY YOUR FRIEND THAT SHE NEEDS TO BE MORE SELF CONFIDENT, DO NOT GET NERVOUS AND SHE NEEDS TO BE POSITIVE; ALSO WHAT YOU SAID HER, IT IS A GOOD ADVISE BECAUSE SHE NEED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE CLASS IN ORDER TO IMPROVE HER SECOND LANGUAGE. SHE NEEDS TO PRACTICE A LOT OF PRONUNCIATION
